Hallucinogen Recovery
Hallucinogens are a class drugs that cause profound distortions in a person’s perception of reality. Under the influence of these drugs, individuals can see images, hear sounds and feel sensations that do not exist. This can include symptoms such rapid and intense emotional swings. Marijuana is the substance most widely used belonging to this class of drugs. Other known hallucinogens are LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), mescaline (peyote cactus), psilocybin mushroom (magic mushrooms), DMT, STP and ibogaine. For the purpose of Crossroads- dissociative drugs, such as PCP (phencyclidine) & ketamine, some stimulants such as MMDA (ecstasy) and certain anesthetics (like nitrous oxide) will fall under this category.
Chronic use can cause a wide array of psychological effects and impaired judgment leading to poor decision making or accidents. Tolerance develops leading to the use of larger doses needed to achieve the same effects. Some users experience flashbacks long after they have stopped use the drug. Hallucinogens are also “gateway drugs” or drugs that lead to other illegal substances. Crossroads is not a drug rehabilitation center. We are a level 4 transitional living community.

Even though a hallucinogen like LSD may not be physically addictive in the same sense that cocaine and heroin are, they can wreak havoc on the lives of abusers. Overcoming a dependence on hallucinogens involves multiple steps. Our program uses a model that balances the proven recovery principles of the 12 Steps, with peer support, and the support of the outside recovery community.
